Environment Canada prepares to weather Pan Am Games

Here's what you need to know for Wednesday, May 27, 2015.

Weather

It's another hot and muggy day in the GTA, with a high of 26 C and the possibility of isolated thunder showers late this afternoon. There is also the chance of wind gusts of up to 50 km/h in some areas, according to CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland.

Seasonal averages for this time in May are 21 C for daytime high and 9 C overnight, so we are well above average for today.

Transit

TTC service is running mostly on time so far this morning, though a car crashed into a hydro pole overnight on Wilson Avenue and its forcing some bus routes to divert. 120 Calvington bus is diverting eastbound and the 96 Wilson and 165 Weston North are diverting both ways to avoid the scene.

The elevator on the eastbound platform at Dundas West station is out of service.

GO Transit trains and buses are running on time. At Burlington station, there will be no elevator access from the south side of the station until fall 2015 because of construction.

Toronto Pearson airport and Billy Bishop airport downtown are reporting that air traffic is moving on time.

Teachers' strike ends — for now

Nearly 70,000 students in Peel, Durham and Rainbow boards will return to school today after the Ontario Labour Relations board ruled that the teachers' strike was illegal. While the boards intend to comply with the ruling, the high school teachers' union says negotiations are far from settled and more strike action is possible before the next school year.

Updated condo act

The 1.3 million Ontario residents who live in condominiums will get a new, less expensive way to resolve disputes under proposed legislation to be introduced Wednesday.

The province will create a Condominium Authority to provide a range of services including dispute resolution, so condo owners won't have to go to court to clear up a disagreement with a neighbour or their condo board.

Attempted arson in west end

Police are searching for an assailant after someone tried multiple times to torch a store in the city's west end overnight with a Molotov cocktail. A large wine bottle with a flammable liquid inside failed to burst open. Residents living above the store were forced to briefly leave their homes.

Canine units responded to the call but were unable to find a possible suspect.

McCowan Park death

Police have ruled a suspicious death in Scarborough a homicide after a body was found in McCowan Park on Monday. They will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. ET Wednesday to update the public on the investigation.
