A 35-year-old Toronto man has died after being removed from the water at a beach along Georgian Bay Sunday afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police say.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at Bluewater Beach in Tiny Township shortly before 1 p.m. for reports of a male in the water without vital signs.

The man had been found underwater by friends he was swimming with, police say. He was pulled onto the beach and witnesses were performing CPR when paramedics arrived.

The victim, who was visiting the area, was taken to Georgian Bay General Hospital where he later died. Police are notifying next-of-kin before releasing the name of the victim.
