Toronto man turns himself in to police after condo double shooting

A Toronto man has turned himself in to police following last week's double shooting in a condo unit near Queen West, according to police.

Kamal Hassan, 23, of Toronto, surrendered the police on Friday, police said.

He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court Saturday morning.

On June 28, two men were found dead in a unit on the 22nd floor of the Edge at Triangle Park condo building at 36 Lisgar St., near Queen Street West and Dufferin Street, police said.

They were identified as Abdiweli Abdullahi and Mohamed Abdiwal Dirie, both of Toronto. Their deaths mark the 24th and 25th homicides in Toronto this year.

Dirie was one of dozens arrested in the Project Traveller raids in 2013, police confirmed.

Project Traveller, which was launched in 2012 and targeted alleged gang members and drug dealers, became well known in Toronto after police recovered a video of former mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine during the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
