Toronto Mayor John Tory plays a moose in The Nutcracker

An unlikely moose was on the loose Sunday at a Toronto theatre.

Mayor John Tory took part in the traditional holiday play known as The Nutcracker, playing a moose with a fondness for candy canes.

Following the show, the 61-year-old mayor said he "had a fun time" playing the massive mammal on stage and gave kudos to the Toronto-based company, that put the play together.

Ballet Jorgen Canada, a local dance company that brings ballet to Canadian youth, said "it was great sharing the stage" with the mayor at the Betty Oliphant Theatre on Jarvis Street.

The company seeks engagement between choreographers and communities to bring art to children.

The mayor stopped by a fundraiser for Syrian refugees later in the day before he heads off to Paris to take part in the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
