Toronto police data shows systemic discrimination in policing against racialized groups

Toronto Police Interim Chief James Ramer said on Wednesday that race-based data released of 2020 incidents showed racialized groups, particularly Black and Indigenous, were disproportionately impacted by police enforcement and use of force. “We have not done enough to ensure that every person in our city receives fair and unbiased policing. And for this, as chief of police and on behalf of the service, I’m sorry and I apologize unreservedly,” Ramer said.
