Toronto police officers help deliver baby in back of east-end taxi cab

Man faces slew of charges after 2 police officers slightly injured in East York

Early Saturday morning, two Toronto police officers helped to deliver a baby boy — in the back of an east-end taxi cab.

Police got the call around 1:20 a.m. from Toronto paramedics that a woman needed help delivering a baby in the backseat of a taxi at Dundas Street East and Coxwell Avenue.

Paramedics were also on the way, but two 55 Division officers got there first. Police said a staff sergeant coached the mom through the delivery, while a constable held the baby as it was born.

Toronto Paramedic Services and Toronto Fire Services arrived on scene to take the mom and her newborn to hospital, where police say they're doing well.
