Ontario Provincial Police near Kingston, Ont., are investigating the discovery of a dead house cat that they believe was tortured.
Residents walking yesterday in the Parrots Bay Conservation Area made the discovery. The conservation area is about 10 kilometres west of Kingston's Norman Rogers Airport.
"It's definitely a concern," said Const. Juliane Porritt with the Loyalist Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.
"This is just a single incident. It was reported last evening but anytime an animal is tortured it's concerning," said Porritt.
The conservation area is part of the larger Cataraqui Conservation Authority, popular with hikers, bikers and dog walkers.
Police are asking for information about anyone seen visiting Parrots Bay on Tuesday.
The Napanee OPP's crime unit and the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are both investigating the incident.
