Tottenham have given some insight into the virtual training sessions implemented by head coach Jose Mourinho amid the coronavirus crisis.

With players remaining at home during the pandemic, and no Premier League football scheduled until 30 April at the earliest, inventive methods of training have been required.

A video on Tottenham’s Twitter account shows the club’s Head of First Team Performance, Carlos Lalin, leading players through a number of exercises over a group video call.

Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Lucas Moura and Ben Davies are among the players that can be seen taking part in exercises involving weights, rollers and footballs.

Jose Mourinho can also be heard instructing his players while songs such as ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ by Survivor and ‘Thunderstruck’ by AC/DC play.

On Tuesday, it was announced that all 550 non-playing staff at the club had seen their salary cut by 20 per cent and many had been put on furlough “where appropriate” in order to cope with the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Spurs also made their stadium the first community hub to open as part of an ambitious initiative to deliver surplus food to vulnerable Londoners.

As the total raised by The Independent‘s Help The Hungry appeal – in conjunction with our sister title, the Evening Standard – leapt by £300,000 in 24 hours to £850,000, the stadium’s underground “pitch pocket” was transformed into a production line reminiscent of a war effort.
