The regular meeting of the Council of the Town of Wakaw was held on Wednesday July 8th in Council Chambers at 121 Main St. Wakaw, Sk. Members of Council present were Mayor Steve Skoworodko, Councilors Chad Parenteau, Michael Markowski, Greg Boschman, and Doug Penner, and CAO Lois Gartner. Councillors Gary Harrison and Terry Ostafichuk were absent. Mayor Skoworodko called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Cllr. Penner moved that the Minutes of the regular Council meeting held on June 10th be approved as read. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved that correspondence received and being dealt with from (1) Kelly Block MP Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek (2) Sask Power regarding trees (3) Government of Saskatchewan regarding MEEP Approval (4) Sask Liquor and Gaming regarding Cannabis Retail Store and (5) WRI 2019 Audited Statement be filed. Crd.
Cllr Boschman moved that council set September 9that 7:00 p.m. for a Discretionary Use Hearing concerning a Cannabis Retail Store in Wakaw to be held at 121 Main St. Wakaw, Sk. Crd.
Cllr. Penner moved that Accounts Payable in the amount of $191,840.56 be authorized for payment and attached to the official minutes. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved that Resolution 89/20 be rescinded. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved that council authorize proceeding to appeal the ruling of Sole Arbitrator Sheila Denysuik Q.C. in the CUPE Grievance 2018-01 and advise Steve Seiferling the Town Legal Counsel to make such arrangements. Crd.
Cllr. Penner moved that council appoint Ray Baumann as EMO Co-ordinator for the Town of Wakaw. Crd.
Cllr. Markowski moved that council authorize the Recreation Centre to re-open to the public effective August 1st and Caretaker Ann Olson to resume her full salary contract also effective August 1st. Crd.
Cllr. Penner moved that council authorize the demolition of 415 Main St. by Jerry Osze for a cost of $4500.00 and demolition to commence once all the utility lines are removed or disconnected. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved that council authorize the sale of the Town Condo for a sale price of $135,000.00 as per the real estate agreement drafted by Tara Knoblach with the possession date of July 31st, 2020. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved that council acknowledge the review of the water quality records. Crd.
Cllr. Boschmann moved that council approve the Development & Building Permit #04/20 for Cornerstone Care Home, Lot 1-4, Block 6, 217 2nd Street North. Crd.
Cllr. Penner moved that council approve the moving permit #07/20 for SHECan to 115 1st Street South. Crd.
Cllr. Markowski moved that council approve a sea can to be moved onto 101 1st Street South, Backroads Distillery Company conditional that the colour of the sea can must match the colour of the existing building. Crd.
Cllr. Penner moved that council authorize the Town of Wakaw Audited 2019 Statement to be posted on the Town of Wakaw website. Crd.
Cllr. Markowski moved that council authorize the Town of Wakaw to enter into a rental agreement with Karen Langston and Rhonda McConnell O/A “SHECan” Boutique for rental of Town Lots 10, 11, 39 Block 20 as per agreement dated June 25, 2020. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved that council authorize the signing of the Letter of Understanding with the CUPE Union to allow for a temporary outside maintenance worker to be hired. Crd.
Cllr. Boschmann that council authorize the hiring of Les Corbett in the position of temporary maintenance worker with an immediate start date and wage per hour of $15.00. Crd.
Cllr. Markowski moved that council authorize $15.00 per hour as a wage for the museum worker. Crd.
Cllr. Parenteau moved the meeting be adjourned at 9:40 pm. Crd
