Pelee elects 2 new officials, results delayed by mail strike and power outage

Township of Pelee has elected a new deputy mayor and a new councillor, after delays in getting election results due to the rotating mail strike and a power outage.

David Allan Dawson is replacing David DeLellis as deputy mayor. However, DeLellis will continue on council as a councillor, as will Dayne Malloch. Sherri Smith-Ouellette is a new councillor-elect.

Results were released Tuesday due to a delay caused by the rotating Canada Post strike. Officials say they had to wait for the mail to come in Tuesday morning.

There was also a power outage Monday night, and consequently, ballots could not be processed at that time.

As of Tuesday early afternoon, officials were still in the process of tallying up the election results.

In Pelee, the candidate for mayor, Ramond Durocher has been acclaimed.

Six people were running for four seats on council. The council candidate who receives the most votes is sworn in as deputy mayor in the township.
