Tractor-trailer crash on Macon interstate leaves one dead. I-16 shut down by investigators
A fatal crash on Interstate 16 in Macon caused all lanes to shut down Thursday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. when “the driver of a Dodge Ram with a trailer collided with a semi-trailer truck,” deputies said in a media release.
Forty-two-year-old Keith Bridgett from South Carolina drove the pickup truck and was pronounced dead by Coroner Leon Jones. Family was notified of the victim’s death, officials said.
The semi-truck driver was not injured, deputies said.
The sheriff’s office said all lanes were still blocked at 3 p.m., though traffic monitoring service Georgia 511 showed roads weren’t blocked anymore as of 3:40 p.m.
The incident was under investigation Thursday afternoon. Anyone with information related to the incident was urged by deputies to call the sheriff’s office and ask to speak with a fatality investigator at 478-751-7500.
