Trader Joe's announced a recall of certain lot codes of Trader Joe's Gluten Free Battered Halibut in 19 states because they contain undeclared wheat and milk.

The chain released the recall notice last Friday, saying that its supplier informed them that the fish contained wheat and milk, both of which are not marked on the label of the product. This product recall only affects Trader Joe's Gluten Free Battered Halibut (SKU# 50382) with the code 537312620 BEST IF USED BY NOV/05/2021 C. The fish was sold in the following states: Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, and Wisconsin.

The FDA notice regarding the recall estimates that it affects 4,450 pounds of product (not seen in the photo above) and said that those who have an "allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat and milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product." No illnesses have been reported as a result of the recall and all of the frozen fish involved has been removed from Trader Joe's stores and destroyed.

Trader Joe's advises customers who have food allergies to check to see if they have this product with these specific codes in their freezer. If so, they should not consume it, and should rather discard the product or return it to any Trader Joe's for a full refund.
