Trae Young drops 50 points for first time of his career as Hawks take down Heat

For the first time in his career, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young posted 50 points on Thursday. It probably won’t be the last time he does it.

Young’s big night keyed a big win for the rebuilding Atlanta Hawks, topping the Miami Heat by a score of 129-124 and providing a glimpse of what the team could like once its key players make the jump.

Of course, you can still steal wins when Young — in his first game since starting in the All-Star game — is hitting shots like this:

All told, Young got his 50 points on 12-of-25 shooting, going 8-of-15 from 3-point range and 18-of-19 from the free throw line. He also doled out eight assists with two steals. According to ESPN Stats & Info, Young is the fourth-youngest player to ever hit the half-century mark (with LeBron James, Devin Booker, Brandon Jennings before him) and is the first Hawk to do it since Shareef Abdur-Rahim in 2001.

It wasn’t just Young lifting up the Hawks, though. Key young players John Collins, Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish and De’Andre Hunter all reached double-digits in scoring against one of the best defensive teams in the league in the Heat.

That included two major plays in the game’s final minute to give the Hawks the lead.

However, rapper Quavo of Atlanta’s Migos only wanted one jersey when the game was over.
