Traffic congestion near polling sites expected on Election Day, CMPD warns

Lines of people stretch down S. College Street outside the Charlotte Convention Center, where former President Barack Obama will rally support for the Harris-Walz campaign.

Drivers can expect congestion near polling sites on Election Day, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department warns.

“Expect heavy traffic around polling locations and plan for long lines and extended wait times to vote,” CMPD said in an alert Tuesday morning. “CMPD will continue to monitor to ensure safety and security of polling locations.”

Polls will remain open until 7:30 p.m. You can use the N.C. State Board of Elections voter search tool to find your polling place.

More than 460,000 voters in Mecklenburg County have already cast their ballots, according to data from the county board of elections.
