Traffic light to be installed at entrance of Carolina Forest High School to help with delays
Plans are moving forward to install a traffic light on Gardner Lacy Road at the entrance of Carolina Forest High School.
Horry County officials and Horry County Schools announced Thursday that the light will be installed after hearing from parents and educators who described frequent traffic delays and safety concerns related to student pick-up and drop-off in the area, a release said.
In 2022, the two agencies began discussions to undertake a joint project to address the safety concerns of entering and exiting the high school, as well as a safer flow of traffic along Gardner Lacy Road.
Work on the design plans for the new traffic signal began in January 2023. In August, Horry County Schools acquired the easements needed for the improvements and Horry County Engineering finalized the design plans for the install, the release said.
The design for the improved intersection includes widening for additional lanes on the school’s access road on the approach to the new signal.
The initial work on the signal will involve utility relocation, which will be followed by road widening and signal installation work, the release said. Additional updates will be provided as work progresses.
The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of the calendar year.
