Train crash leaves 76-year-old dead after SUV got stuck on tracks, Macon deputies say
A woman died Sunday after a train struck her SUV a few days prior in Macon, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Cheryl Rawls, 76, was critically injured in the crash on Tucker and Forsyth roads Friday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said in a previous news release.
Rawls got stuck under the crossing gate and she was unable to clear the train’s path, deputies said.
The area was blocked by the train after the incident. Railroad employees were working to clean up damages at the time.
Coroner Leon Jones told The Telegraph Rawls was pronounced dead around 11 a.m. and family was notified.
