Travis Kelce says Chiefs will look to keep the offense’s momentum rolling in Green Bay
The Chiefs head to Green Bay for a Sunday Night Football game with a little bounce in their step on offense.
Coming off a 31-17 victory at the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chiefs matched their second-highest point total of the season and quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this fall.
A big game from tight end Travis Kelce was also pivotal. His 91 yards on six receptions was his highest output in a month, and he sees the offense moving in the right direction.
“Slowly inclining, getting better every single day,” Kelce said Friday. “You can see it on the field, you can see how everybody is more in tune with the offense and feels their role being developed and kind of rising to the occasion when asked to do more.”
Kelce, the four-time All-Pro, leads the Chiefs with 70 receptions this season. Tops among wide receivers — and one of those players on the rise — is rookie Rashee RIce. His five touchdown catches matches Kelce for the team lead.
“He’s got all the talent you need in that receiver room,” Kelce said. “He can play inside, he can play outside. He’s strong with the ball. His role is getting bigger and bigger every single week. It’s exciting to see him.”
The 2023 Chiefs continue to chase the sort of numbers they established as commonplace in previous seasons. Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes hasn’t been the starting quarterback on a team that finished sixth in the NFL in points and yards.
Through 11 games, these Chiefs average 11th in points (23.3) and eighth in yards (364.), but Kelce said this year’s offense can be as good as those fielded by previous teams.
“Everybody is kind of on the same page that we have to get this thing rolling now,” he said. “You felt it last week during the game and sure enough you felt it during practices. We understand what it can be.”
The Chiefs should be healthier at Green Bay. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who missed the Raiders game with a hip/ankle injury, was a full participant in practice this week. Running back Jerick McKinnon is listed as questionable with a groin injury.
