If your alarm clock still sits on a wooden bulky nightstand that has four legs firmly plotted on the ground, then you're like me, and prefer to keep things traditional. It wasn't until recently, however, that the House Beautiful team started to notice another type of nightstand gaining momentum on Instagram: floating nightstands.

What are floating nightstands, you ask? Well, to give the easiest definition, they're nightstands without legs that are mounted to the wall, as a shelf would. From afar, they look to be ~floating~. They're the type of nightstand a minimalist would probably pick for the bedroom―or anyone who is short on space.

What’s neat about floating nightstands is that they create a lot of space underneath, which can be used for storage, or kept open for a super tidy look. Plus, if you have an electrical outlet under your nightstand, it makes for super easy access. They also take up a lot less space than your traditional nightstand and can be squeezed into even the tiniest areas.

If you've noticed the trend on Instagram already, then you're probably aware that floating nightstands come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. Larger options offer room to place an alarm clock, book, or tablet as you turnover and drift off to sleep. Others, however, are more like a shelf and don't provide much of a surface to place your belongings on. Let's take a look.

Just like a traditional nightstand, some floating nightstands include a drawer to keep your valuables in.

This lightweight stand offers a shelf to place reading materials, your smartphone, etc. However, it’s not ideal if you need to set a small item down, which could slip through the cracks.

These nightstands are more decorative, offering enough space for a candle or two.

This floating nightstand doesn't even have anything on it at all. Perhaps that's a major style statement?

Whatever your style, there's an option for you. So if you're ready to try the trend yourself, here are a few options to get your search started.
