Tropical Storm Kompasu Slams Hikers on Hong Kong Mountain Trail

Tropical Storm Kompasu was forecast to move towards northern Vietnam on Thursday, October 14, after being downgraded from a typhoon status the day prior, Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) said.

This footage filmed by local tour guide Wild Hong Kong on Wednesday shows strong winds and rain slamming hikers on Tate’s Cairn. “Idyllic conditions on the trail today…” they wrote in a caption.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of the Philippines reported 30 deaths and 14 people missing as of Thursday after the storm brought flooding and intense winds to the region.

The HKO warned of swells over offshore waters on Thursday and urged the public to stay away from the shoreline. Credit: Wild Hong Kong via Storyful
