Trudeau acknowledges discovery of children's remains buried at former B.C. residential school

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday said he was “appalled by the shameful policy that stole Indigenous children from their communities,” following the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C. “Sadly, this is not an exception or an isolated incident,” he said, adding, “Residential schools were a reality — a tragedy that existed here, in our country, and we have to own up to it.”
