President Trump has – surprisingly  – claimed that he ‘probably’ has a ‘very good relationship’ with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.

Despite the pair’s war of words over the last few months, which have dragged the two countries seemingly to the edge of military conflict, Trump has said in an interview that the pair get on well.

‘I probably have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un,’ Trump said ‘I have relationships with people. I think you people are surprised.’

He was speaking to the Wall Street Journal just a day after saying he wanted to enter into talks with Pyongyang over the country’s controversial nuclear programme.

Trump was then asked if he has spoken directly with Kim, but did not give a definitive answer.

‘I’m not saying I have or haven’t,’ Trump said. ‘I just don’t want to comment.’

He then added that the war of words, including his dismissal of the North Korean leader as ‘Little Rocket Man’ and has also called him ‘maniac’,  are part of a strategy.

He has also tweeted that his nuclear button is ‘bigger’ than Kim’s.

‘Sure. I always believe in talking,’ he told reporters at Camp David. ‘If something can happen and something can come out of those talks, that would be a great thing for all of humanity.’
