Trump's Hollywood star pickaxed by person dressed as the Hulk hours after positive COVID-19 test

President Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been vandalized again, this time by a person dressed as a green (and, apparently, very angry) comic book character.

According to Los Angeles Police Department Public Information Officer Jeff Lee, a suspect in an Incredible Hulk costume took a pickaxe to Trump's star at around 5:50 a.m. PT on Friday, hours after the president announced he and his wife Melania tested positive for the coronavirus.

Lee added that a vandalism report has been filed, and that the suspect is not yet in custody.

Rana Ghadban, who is president and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce which administers the Hollywood Walk of Fame, encouraged people not to damage state landmarks in a statement provided to USA TODAY.

"When people are angry with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California State landmark," she said. "Our democracy is based on respect for the law. People can make a real difference by voting and not destroying public property."

Ghadban also noted that any vandalized or destroyed star, no matter whose it is, is replaced by the Hollywood Historic Trust, a non-partisan group.

"The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a historic landmark which celebrates the professional contributions of the inductees," she said. "The stars once installed, are considered part of the historic fabric of the Walk."

Trump's star has been the frequent target of vandalism since the 2016 presidential election, enduring several pickaxe and sledgehammer attacks, paint and even fake urination from comedian George Lopez.

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said Trump was "feeling mild symptoms" but "energetic" on Friday, after the announcement that the president and first lady tested positive for COVID-19.

Hours before the announcement, it was reported that Trump adviser Hope Hicks, with whom he had recently traveled, had been infected.
