Your turn to talk taxes

Want to talk taxes?

Now’s your chance.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has set up an online 13-question survey to allow you to help officials with modernizing its out-dated tax system.

The municipality is hoping to improve a system that currently has 3,000 different municipal rates.

According to a press release from the municipality, the rates are holdovers from pre-amalgamation.

Through taxpayers can have their say on current issues, including the 14 different area-rating charges that currently exist.

The project is revenue neutral, assuming total tax revenue generated will remain unchanged.

Area rating shifts the tax burden between properties with significant differences in service levels.

The survey is open until Nov. 8.
