‘Making a Murderer’ Subject Steven Avery’s Twin Sons Interviewed for the First Time

The twin sons of Steven Avery, the subject of Netflix’s docuseries Making a Murderer, were interviewed for the first time by Crime Watch Daily. Bill and Steven Jr. were asked whether they think their father killed Teresa Halbach. “No. I don’t think he did,” answered Bill. “I have no idea,” said Steven Jr. “That’s … only one person could answer that, and that’s Teresa Halbach. But she can’t answer it no more.”

While Steven Jr. was less certain in his father’s innocence than his brother, he still thinks the trial that sent Steven Avery Sr. and Brendan Dassey to prison was not fair. “Only thing I know is that the entire case was very shady,” he said. “Like, it’s clear that there was corruption. I think him and Brendan deserve a fair trial. … If they’re guilty, let them sit. But if they’re free, get them out. It’s been ten years now.”

The Avery brothers say they have been persecuted because of their last name. Steven Jr. talked about jobs he and his brother were denied after they returned from serving in the military. “One of the main guys that works there, he’s like, ‘I seen the Avery boys put in the applications here. It’ll be a cold day in hell before they ever get hired,’” he recalled. “It was something like that. … To be discriminated against because of my last name is — it’s awful.”

Fortunately, despite all that has happened to him and his brother, Steven Jr. seems to be happy. “It sucks, but at the same point, I had a good life. I would not trade this life to see where that life lead,” he said. Their full interview will air on Crime Watch Daily on February 8.
