Two teens were sent to the hospital after police say they crashed while racing in Jasper County.

Police say a 12-year-old driving a Chevrolet Tahoe was racing a 14-year-old driving a Toyota Tacoma Sunday, Sept. 17 around 9:15 p.m., according to a crash report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The 12-year-old SUV driver crossed over the center line and hit the rear of the Toyota pickup driven by the 14-year-old, causing the truck to go off the side of the road, crash into a tree and overturn, the report said.

The pickup driver and a 14-year-old SUV passenger were taken to a hospital by ambulance. They both suffered from moderate injuries, according to the crash report.

The report said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time, but the passenger was not.

Jasper County is in southwest Missouri, about 60 miles west of Springfield.
