Niagara Catholic confirmed two COVID-19 cases at two separate schools in Welland

In a release Monday evening, the board said an individual at St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School and another at Notre Dame College School both tested positive for COVID-19.

The board said “students and staff at both schools were exposed to COVID-19 while the individuals were infectious.”

The two “individuals are currently in self-isolation. The principal of each school is sending a letter to students and staff to notify them.”

Staff from both schools are working with Niagara Region Public Health.

The release didn’t say whether the cases involved students or staff members. While the online provincial school-related database will indicate if the individual is a staff or student, no update has been provided yet.

Niagara Region Public Health is contacting all students and staff who had direct contact with the individuals. Niagara Catholic advises all individuals who were informed to follow the recommendations of Niagara Region Public Health.

These two cases are the second and third confirmed by the Catholic board in the past five days. On Oct. 29, the board announced Lakeshore Catholic’s first COVID-19 case.
