Two people dead after automobile accidents in Rosewood-Devine street area

Columbia police are investigating two fatal automobile accidents that occurred hours apart in the same area of the city Tuesday evening.

In the first incident, a man riding a motorcycle died near the intersection of Fort Jackson Boulevard and Wildcat Road after a collision with a pickup truck, according to a tweet from the Columbia Police Department. The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was pronounced dead after police arrived about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The second fatality occurred near a convenience store on Rosewood Drive at South Edisto Avenue when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Further details were not immediately available, including the identity of the person who died.

The two accidents happened within about three miles of each other in the southern part of Columbia. Rosewood Drive becomes Wildcat Road near Devine Street.
