Two sent to hospital after three-vehicle collision in Central Elgin

Two people were sent to the hospital after a three-vehicle collision in Central Elgin on Tuesday, June 1.

Elgin OPP reported the incident occurred around 2:56 p.m. on Centennial Avenue at Wellington Road.

A car was travelling northbound on Centennial was attempting to turn left onto Wellington when it was struck from behind by a commercial motor vehicle. The car was then pushed into the path of a southbound vehicle, the two cars collided head on.

The driver, a 77-year-old St. Thomas resident had to be extricated from the vehicle by Central Elgin Fire Services. They were then transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 74-year-old Aylmer resident, was also sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle was uninjured.

Centennial Ave. was temporarily closed to facilitate the investigation and reopened at about 4:40 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
