Two workers killed in rollover in northwest Alberta

Two workers are dead after the paving equipment they were operating rolled into a ditch near Beaverlodge.

RCMP say the incident happened Monday afternoon on Highway 672.

No other vehicles were involved, and the two workers inside the vehicle were declared dead at the scene.

Alberta Labour spokesman Andrew Hanon confirmed the workers were operating a large piece of paving equipment at the time of the incident.

Ledcor was the contractor for the project, Hanon said. He could not confirm who the workers were employed by.

Highway 672 between Range Roads 81 and 82 remains closed Tuesday morning while Occupational Health and Safety and RCMP continue to investigate.

Hanon said investigators will be looking at the equipment involved in the incident, and the operation of that equipment as part of their investigation.

Police have not said when the highway will reopen, and have not released any more information about the workers involved.

Beaverlodge is approximately 43 kilometres west of Grande Prairie, near the B.C. border.
