Tyler Gwozdz, a contestant on reality series The Bachelorette, has died of a suspected drug overdose.

The 29-year-old – who was known on the show as “Tyler G” – was rushed to hospital on 13 January, but died in Florida after a week in intensive care.

According to TMZ, Gwozdz is suspected of overdosing on heroin – a source told Variety that he had a history of addiction.

“We are heartbroken to hear the tragic news of Tyler’s passing today,” the Bachelor and Bachelorette’s producers said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with the Gwozdz family and his friends.”

Going by the ABC website, Gwozdz wanted to become a clinical psychologist.

His time on the show was short. In 2019 – on the show’s 15th series – he quit after just three episodes without an explanation despite being selected to have the first date with contestant Hannah Brown.

He eventually described his decision as “something that I’ve come to realise was the best I could have made”.
