What type of running back could Javonte Williams be in the NFL?

LIZ LOZA: Who would you see him as? What do you think-- who do you think his ceiling is, a comp at the next level?
ERIC EDHOLM: Yeah, so body-size-wise and running-style-wise, Nick Chubb was the first guy to came to mind. I don't think he has the long speed that Chubb does. Even post-knee surgery, Chubb could run-- what was it, a 4.39 or whatever he ran coming out?
So I don't think Williams is going to have just that extra gear, that home-run-type speed. But he's going to be essentially a doubles hitter version of that. And so that still plays in the NFL, as you know.
LIZ LOZA: I have Nick Chubb down as well, but I am hearing these whispers about him maybe being David Montgomery, because he didn't play at Georgia. There is a different level of competition that he faced because of the lack of experience. Do you put any credence into the David Montgomery at his floor, Nick Chubb at his ceiling argument?
ERIC EDHOLM: Absolutely. No, I think that makes perfect sense. There were times when you felt like his vision was maybe something that needed to be developed. Some people will tell you that vision, you either have it or you don't. I don't necessarily believe that. I think you can learn to read your blocks better, read fronts, and all that stuff, and the more time you see similar patterns happen, the easier it is to read.
So Montgomery's-- early in his Iowa State career and his rookie year with the Bears, it felt like he was just slamming into the back of his zone linemen at times.
LIZ LOZA: He was.
ERIC EDHOLM: Yeah, and it was just-- well, I don't need to tell a Bears fan that, right? But last year, you saw him pacing better, and tempo was better, and letting his blocks develop and things like that. So I think it's a very fair comp.
