U.K.’s Johnson survives no-confidence vote

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson survived a no-confidence vote in Parliament on Monday. M.P. Graham Brady read the results of the vote by Conservative Party members, which Johnson won, 211-148.

GRAHAM BRADY: I can report as returning officer, that 359 ballots were cast, no spoiled ballots, that the vote in favor of having confidence in Boris Johnson as leader was 211 votes and a vote against was 148 votes. And therefore, I can announce that the parliamentary party does have confidence.

  • Kentville grocery store damaged in Canada Day fire

    There's no word on when a grocery store in Kentville, N.S., will reopen after a fire Friday afternoon left the front of the building damaged. Kentville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Scott Hamilton said crews responded a call for a fire at an Independent Grocer location on Main Street at about 4 p.m. Friday. Hamilton said firefighters found heavy smoke around pillars at the front of the building. He said the fire travelled up one of the pillars to the roof. The store was closed for Canada Day.

    CAIRO (Reuters) -Two women were killed in shark attacks in Egypt's Red Sea, south of the city of Hurghada, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment said on Sunday. It also mentioned that the Governor of the Red Sea Governorate, Major General Amr Hanafi, has issued an order to suspend all activity in the area surrounding the attacks. A security source also added that the Austrian woman had been living in Egypt over the past five years with her Egyptian husband.
