Ukrainian Navy warns of serious consequences following attacks on Sevastopol naval base

Successful Ukrainian attacks on Russian naval base in temporarily occupied Sevastopol could be a serious threat for Russian Black Sea Fleet, said Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, on the national TV on March 26.

He mentioned that one of the damaged Russian facilities in Sevastopol was the building of a Russian naval base.

"If this facility functioned according to its naming, than it is a very serious loss for the Russian Black Sea Fleet," he said.

This particular base is responsible for providing the Black Sea Fleet with everything from fuel and provision to ammunition, weapons, and ship security, added Pletenchuk.

"So this object was quite important."

Strikes on Russian Black Sea Fleet ships in Sevastopol - what is known

On March 23-24, explosions were heard in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol. OSINT analysts wrote about strikes by Storm Shadow missiles on a large communication hub of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. There were also reports of drones hitting an oil depot near the village of Hvardiyske.

On March 24, Ukrainian Armed Forces StratCom confirmed on Telegram that large landing ships Yamal and Azov, as well as a communications center and several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol, had been hit.

A representative of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, confirmed the ships were hit. He noted that in case of serious damage to the Russian Black Sea Fleet's Yamal and Azov landing ships, it would be a new significant loss for Russians. As they may now have only 3 of the 13 lanidng ships that were ready for action until Feb. 24, 2022.

GUR added that the Yamal landing ship was critically damaged. Russians are forced to continuously pump water out of the ship.
