Under the Dome podcast: Return of the NC House and what’s next for Cooper
Start your week in North Carolina politics with our latest Under the Dome podcast, for the week of August 5, 2024. Dawn Vaughan here, your podcast host and The News & Observer’s Capitol bureau chief. On this episode, I’m joined by my politics team colleague Avi Bajpai.
During our first half, we talk about what the rest of Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s time as governor will bring, the speculation that centered on Cooper in late July, and what we now know for sure: Cooper will continue to be a surrogate for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, and depending on the election results, could be appointed to her Cabinet or run for U.S. Senate in 2026.
After the break, we talk about the legislative branch and what happened at the General Assembly during the House’s one-day voting session last week. Plus, what might or might not happen when the House and Senate get together again this fall.
Headliner of the Week
Stayed tuned to the end for our picks for Headliner of the Week. We have a joint Headliner this week, and it has to do with something that the several hundred state employees at the Legislative Building all know about: food.
