Union hosting meeting about FCA outsourcing Sunday
The union representing close to 300 Fiat Chrysler Automobile transportation workers has called a meeting this Sunday to discuss the company's intention to outsource their positions.
The employees learned about the company's intention to eliminate their positions back in March. Since then, Unifor Local 444 president Dino Chiodo said the union has been fighting for FCA to reverse their decision.
"We've been arguing emphatically, saying that isn't something they should do," he said, explaining if the company wanted to outsource the work he believes it should have been brought up at bargaining.
"We believe the … division should stay intact at the Windsor assembly plant because we provide an amazing service and we have no problems doing that at the plant."
Choido said he and other union representatives have spoken with the company "a couple of times" since a letter announcing the intent to outsource the work was sent, but he still does not have many details for how the situation could be rectified.
Meanwhile, the letter and online posts advertising the transportation jobs are making it tough for workers.
"How do you … go to work every day and do the best job you can with that hovering over your head?" he asked.
The meeting is scheduled for 8 a.m. at the Caboto Club on Parent Avenue.
