United Way of Windsor-Essex invites community to share stories, souvenirs ahead of 70th anniversary

The United Way of Windsor-Essex County is planning a party that's been 70 years in the making.

The charitable organization was established in October 1947 and has big plans for inviting the community to help celebrate its upcoming anniversary.

"This community comes together like no other community when there are people in need," said co-chair Gary Parent. "You'd be hard-pressed to find someone within this community who has not be touched by the United Way some way over its years."

People will  have an opportunity to get reunited with the organization through events held during the year, he added.

To mark the anniversary, United Way is putting out a public call for people to bring in souvenirs, paraphernalia and other mementos linked to campaigns from past decades.

Stories of the different ways the organization has lent a hand to those in need will also be shared.

The items will be put on display during reUnited dinner at the Caboto Club on November 10.
