'Unknown liquid' sprayed into Brandon police officers' faces

Brandon man accused of inappropriately touching woman

A 60-year-old man in Brandon, Man., faces numerous assault charges after an "unknown liquid" was sprayed into the faces of two police officers who were investigating a collision early this morning.

Brandon police say they were called at 2:23 a.m. Friday to a parking lot the 3100 block of Victoria Avenue, where two women were struck by a vehicle. They were not seriously injured, according to police.

When the officers found the suspect vehicle in the 1900 block of Hilton Avenue, they spoke with a man who then "produced a squeeze bottle and proceeded to spray an unknown liquid in the face of the officers," the Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

Officers used a Taser stun gun to subdue the man.

A police spokesperson said it's currently not known what was in the squeeze bottle.

The officers received medical treatment in hospital and have since been released, while the man was arrested, charged and detained at the Brandon Correctional Centre.

He is charged with assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of assault.
