Dunton Rainville co-operating with UPAC investigators

Montreal law firm, Dunton Rainville, says it's co-operating with the Quebec anti-corruption unit's investigation into the water-meter scandal.

Several investigators were at the law offices, located in the Montreal stock exchange tower, since early Thursday morning.

In recent weeks, various municipal offices, politicians' homes and engineering firms have been raided as part of an investigation into the Montreal's water-meter scandal.

In 2009, former Montreal mayor Gérald Tremblay announced the multi-million dollar contract awarded to the private consortium GÉNIeau would be cancelled after a review found irregularities with the tendering process.

A spokeswoman for UPAC said no arrests are expected today.

A statement issued by Dunton Rainville states that UPAC investigators had to obtain a warrant in order to get access to case files, because the firm's lawyers are bound by attorney-client privilege.

Dunton Rainville said the files in question date between 2006 and 2008.
