RCMP confirmed Monday afternoon, Nov. 15, its Major Crime Unit is investigating the murder of a 35-year-old woman in Bulls Creek, just south of Woodstock, N.B.
RCMP were on scene at 1428 Route 165 in Bulls Creek all day Sunday and Monday.
The RCMP said officers responded to a report that a woman was shot outside a home on Route 165 at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14.
Police identified the woman as 35-year-old Christine Thibodeau, saying she died at the scene due to her injuries.
The RCMP said an autopsy would help determine the woman's exact cause of death.
A 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene but later released.
As they continue their investigation, police ask anyone who may have information or witnessed anything to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 1-888-506-7267.
A neighbour said he woke Sunday to find the adjacent property cordoned off with police tape and more than a half-dozen RCMP vehicles in the yard. He said he heard little overnight except the sounds of sirens driving past around 2 a.m. Sunday.
The neighbour said he approached an RCMP officer Sunday afternoon, asking if he had any reason for concern. He said the officer told him, no, adding police had one person in custody and were looking for a second person.
Late Monday afternoon, yellow police tape remained surrounding the property, and a police car remained at the driveway entrance.
