Upstate NY teen arrested for threatening kindergarten shooting, loaded gun recovered
A 15-year-old suspect in Buffalo, N.Y., has been taken into custody after he allegedly made online threats to carry out a kindergarten classroom shooting, local law enforcement said Thursday.
Buffalo Police joined the FBI in executing a search warrant at a home on Sycamore Street on Wednesday, after being alerted to a social media post threatening “mass harm” on a school.
The threat was allegedly made on the social media site Discord in late August, according to Buffalo’s WIVB. It did not mention any specific classroom or school, and Buffalo police would not say what school the suspect attended given his juvenile status.
When authorities searched the residence, they discovered a loaded 12-gauge shotgun along with additional ammunition. The gun matched the firearm shown in the teen’s social media post, police said.
They also seized 14 lbs. of marijuana, which led to the arrest of 18-year-old Saeed Saeed, who’s been identified as the younger suspect’s brother. Saeed, the owner of the weapon found in the home, has also been accused of improperly storing the firearm.
The minor, who’s been charged with misdemeanor making a threat of mass harm, has not been identified.
In 2022, the Times Union reported New York State had seen 76 school shootings in the previous 50 years. In most of those shootings, the gunman was a teenager.
