Vancouver Canucks-Calgary Flames: 5 facts about goalie Ryan Miller

Vancouver Canucks goalie Ryan Miller stopped 20 of 21 Calgary Flames shots in Game 5, helping the Canucks stave off elimination with a 2-1 victory.

Vancouver now trails in the best-of-seven series 3-2. Miller will be back in net for another elimination test Saturday night in Calgary. Here are five things you might not know about Vancouver's man of the moment.

1. No rust

Entering Thursday night's Game 5 Miller had only played five periods of hockey in the preceding two months, due to a knee injury. Miller took over from Eddie Lack who started the first four games of the series.

2. Stick to playing

During his time off for injury rehab, Miller entered a contest to design Lack's new goalie equipment. He did not win.

3. Puck-stopping daddy

Miller and his wife, actor Noureen DeWulf (Anger Management, Hockey Wives) announced the birth of their first child Bodhi Ryan Miller just over a month ago.

4. All the relations

Miller is part of a large and accomplished hockey family from Michigan. His younger brother Drew is a forward with the Detroit Red Wings. His cousins Kip, Kelly and Kevin Miller all had long NHL careers. Ten members of the extended Miller family have played NCAA hockey at Michigan state.

5. Olympic MVP

Miller was named Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics men's hockey tournament, despite giving up Sidney Crosby's golden goal in overtime of the championship game.

He finished the tournament with an incredible .946 save percentage and goals against average of 1.35. And a silver medal.
