Vancouver couple sues hospital over alleged theft during baby delivery

A Vancouver couple is suing BC Women's Hospital, saying they were robbed during the birth of their child.

The lawsuit, filed this week in B.C. provincial court, dates back to December 2015.

The lawsuit states that Erin Gilmore and her partner showed up at women's hospital — ready for their baby to be born.

Gilmore was told she needed an emergency caesarean.

The claim states a nurse told her partner, Nelson Borges, to put all their belongings in a locker. But he wasn't given a lock.

While the couple was in the operating room, they say a man went into the locker and stole their clothes, house keys, wedding ring, wallets and more.

Now, the couple is suing the hospital — along with an unnamed nurse and the John Doe who allegedly robbed them.

They're claiming just over $17,000 in damages. The Provincial Health Services Authority has not yet commented on the suit.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
