Vancouver meters now let you pay in advance for next morning's parking

Drivers in Vancouver will now be able to leave their car parked overnight at meters and pay in advance for parking the next morning.

The new "Park Until" feature from PayByPhone — the city's parking payment provider — will allow drivers to select a date and time for their parking session to end, the City of Vancouver announced Monday.

Previously, drivers had to return to their vehicle in the morning, or use the PayByPhone app, to move their car or pay for additional parking when meters go back in effect at 9 a.m.

Now, drivers parking overnight at a three-hour meter, for instance, will be able to pay to park until noon.

"The PayByPhone Park Until function is perfect for people who have been kept late after their night shift ends or who didn't originally plan on enjoying a few drinks while out," the city said in a release.

The launch coincides with TransLink's new central hub for NightBus service, located at the intersection of Granville Street and West Georgia Street.
