Vaughan jewelry store robbery: Police arrest 1 of 5 suspects

Vaughan café shooting kills 2, injures 2

York Regional Police have arrested one of five suspects in connection with the robbery of a Vaughan jewelry store last summer.

A 24-year-old woman faces six charges, including two counts of attempted and attempted robbery. She was expected to appear in a Newmarket courtroom on Wednesday.

The incident last summer turned frightening when two female suspects produced weapons inside the store, according to witnesses. Meanwhile, three male suspects remained outside, blocked from entering when the store's security system was activated.

Police say one of the women pointed a gun at the owner's 11-year-old daughter. Witnesses told police the suspect repeatedly pulled the trigger, but the weapon "failed to fire."

The two women entered the Asia Gold Incorporated Jewelry Store on Steeles Avenue West at 8:22 p.m. on Aug. 1, posing as customers, police say.

After asking the owner if she could view a white gold necklace, the suspect pulled a handgun from her purse and demanded that the owner hand it over, police said.

At the same time, a second female suspect pulled out a stun gun, they say.

Police say the women grabbed jewelry before leaving the scene with the three males in a black, four-door BMW.
