Vehicle linked to fatal hit-and-run found in ditch

Clothing lies on the road at 82 Street and 141 Avenue where an 18-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run Sunday morning.

Edmonton police have found the vehicle suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run that killed an 18-year-old woman early Sunday morning, but are still searching for the driver.

Police received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle hit a pedestrian at 82 Street and 141 Avenue just after 3:20 a.m. MT.

The woman was treated by emergency workers and taken to hospital, where she later died.

Family members identified the victim as Faith Jackson.

Acting Duty Officer Sid Kingma says police recovered the vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Charger, in a ditch off Old Fort Road, north of the Alberta Hospital.

“The vehicle was observed by an alert citizen, and the vehicle had been abandoned,” he said.

Police say there was some damage to the car's front end.

They are still investigating who owned the vehicle and who was driving it at the time.

Police are also trying to determine if the woman was crossing 82nd Street when she was hit, or if she was walking south along the street.
