A 36-year-old man has been identified as Calgary's first homicide victim of 2022 after a shooting in Calgary's southwest Thursday.

Eric Riendeau was the victim of what investigators described as a targeted shooting in Sunalta.

Riendeau had "an extensive history with the courts," according to a court employee.

Around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to an alley off 17th Street S.W. between 12th and 13th avenues.

That's where they found Riendeau suffering a gunshot wound. He died at the scene despite officers and paramedics' efforts to save his life.

Investigators are looking for a vehicle described as a small black or dark grey SUV that may have been in the area around the time of the shooting.

Police say 12th Avenue S.W. between 17th Street and 18th Street continues to be shut down as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the shooting or suspect vehicle is asked to contact the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
