Man under arrest and victim in Cannington house shooting knew each other, police say

Durham Regional Police are investigating a suspected homicide in Cannington, about 60 kilometres northeast of Newmarket.

Police responded to a home on Hillside Crescent at around 1 a.m. Friday for a report of a shooting.

After arriving at the scene, officers found a man who lives at the residence suffering from gunshot wounds, Durham police said in a news release. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as Brian Shane Windsor, 38, of Hillside Crescent. He is Durham Region's sixth homicide of the year.

Police arrested another male resident of the home, the release said. His name was not immediately released.

"This is an isolated incident and there are no outstanding suspects," it went on.

Earlier Friday, Durham police Staff Sgt. Micah Wagenberg said the relationship between the victim and the man in custody was unclear.
