Air strike kills 13 suspected militants in Yemen

In Yemen, at least 13 suspected al Qaeda militants have been killed in an air strike. The insurgents were reportedly targeted in their vehicles in the al-Bayda region of the country. Three civilians travelling in a nearby car are also thought to have been killed in the attack. Tribal sources claim a drone had been circling the area for days. While the exact nature of the strike still remains unclear, the US has targeted al Qaeda in Yemen in the past. Earlier this week suspected militants shot dead the deputy governor of al-Bayda as he was leaving his home. Yemen’s al Qaeda branch is considered to be one of the most dangerous in the world. Last month its leader vowed to attack the US, posting a recent video online purporting to show Islamist fighters celebrating a mass jailbreak.
