Ban Calls for 'Compromise and Consensus' at Paris Climate Talks

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for “bold climate action[s]” for a “low-emissions, climate-resilient future” at the opening of the Paris climate talks on Monday, November 30. Addressing more than 150 world leaders, Ban emphasised “compromise and consensus”, saying “a political movement like this may not come again” and that “Paris must make a turning point”.

Ban said successful climate change policies should be durable, dynamic, credible, and able to embody solidarity with the poor and the most vulnerable. “Five-year cycles, beginning before 2020, are crucial,” added Ban. Credit: YouTube/United Nations
