Bicyclist Documents Wildfire Destruction in Southern Oregon Town

A wildfire has ravaged parts of southwest Oregon, destroying hundreds of homes and forcing thousands of evacuations by Thursday, September 10, local media reported.

The Almeda Drive Fire sparked in Ashland on Tuesday and “quickly” spread through the towns of Talent and Phoenix in Jackson County, The Oregonian reported.

The blaze was about 3,000 acres and zero percent contained as of Wednesday, according to reports.

Ashland’s interim city administrator Adam Hanks reportedly described the damage in the region as “horribly significant.”

Oregon Gov Kate Brown said several wildfires burning across the state were “unprecedented.”

This video, filmed by Bow Shaban DeBey mostly from his bicycle, shows fire consuming structures in Talent. The footage later shows buildings reduced to ash and rubble as he surveys the damage in daylight on Wednesday.

DeBey said he created a GoFundMe to raise money to help the community of Talent “rebuild their lives” and recover from the fire. Credit: Bow Shaban DeBey via Storyful
